Reflections on Psalm 8 (Part 2)

Key verse: Ps 8:3-4
V3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have set in place,
V4 What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?

  • Somewhere between these 2 phrases worship begins.
  • Creating time and space to think is essential for developing a lifestyle of God-sized worship
  • David looked up (Looking up is what worship is all about)
  • When we look around, we see our circumstances, frustration, unfinished task, imperfection, injustice, disease
  • When David looked up, he saw order, confronted with the incomprehensible, The Eternal, The Mysterious, The Expansive, The Beautiful
  • When we look up, God gets bigger and we get smaller
    • What is man that you are mindful of him? Ps 8:4
  • We are amazed that a God so big cares for us who are so small
  • This small is not a bad small; it’s a good glorious small that causes David to embrace his true value in the arms of a loving God, propelling him to offer unrestrained glory to the Maker of all things.
  • There’s a big, big God up there who knows your name!
