To start off, lets learn the basic major scale. There are 7 patterns over the fretboard to form up the major scale. The first pattern we will learn is the Ionian Scale in the Key of G.

The numbers in the circles will be the finger that you will use.
Starting on the 3rd fret, low E string follow the pattern with down up picking.
Work backwards starting from the high E string. Get familiar with the scale.
